LONGLEAT HOUSE Longleat House is 140 kilometres west of London, between the cities of Salisbury and Bath. The house is the home of Lord Bath. It is about 400 years old. Visitors can walk through and look at the beautiful rooms and they can see the antique furniture in the rooms. There is also a Safari Park at Longleat House. Visitors can drive through the park and see many animals there. Longleat House is open every day from 10 o'clock in the morning to 6 o'clock in the evening. The Safari Park is open only in the summer.

SAN FRANCISCO 1: San Francisco is in the State of California in the west of the United States. 2: It is near the Pacific Ocean. 3: People think it is the capital of California, but it isn't. 4: First, people from Spain lived there. 5: Today, Austrians, Italians, Chinese and others live in the city with Americans. 6: The Chinese live in Chinatown. 7: There are many Chinese restaurants there. 8: The houses, post boxes and telephones in the streets are very interesting. 9: This part of the town is exactly like China. 10: Fisherman's Wharf is another place where tourists want to go. 11: You can find a table in a nice little restaurant near the sea there. 12: You can eat sea food and look at the Golden Gate Bridge. 13: You can watch the ships passing under it and the cars crossing it. 14: The Golden Gate Bridge is the symbol of San Francisco. 15: After you finish your meal, you can take a boat trip to Alcatraz. 16: Alcatraz was a famous prison between 1866 and 1920, but only tourists go there now. 17: San Francisco is different from other American cities. 18: It is more European. 19: The sun always shines there and there are a lot of things you can do at night - you can go to the nightclubs, discos, restaurants, cinemas and theatres. 20: That's why a lot of young people want to live in San Francisco.

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

1. William Shakespeare was born in Stratford on April 23rd, 1564.
2. His father, John Shakespeare, was an important man in the town - William did not come from a poor family.
3. When he was eighteen, William married Anne Hathaway in Stratford.
4. But he didn't want to stay there.
5. He wanted to be an actor and the best theatres were in London.
6. So, in 1587, William went to London, where he worked as an actor in a theatre called The Rose.
7. He began to write plays for the actors.
8. He wrote Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, Richard II, Antony and Cleopatra and many more.
9. Everyone liked his plays, and he became famous.
10. When James I became King in 1603, Shakespeare worked for him, and performed his plays for the King and his friends.
11. He also worked at the famous Globe Theatre.
12. This theatre presented his last play, Henry VIII.
13. There was a gun in this play, and fire from the gun burned the theatre down.
14. In 1610 Shakespeare went back to Stratford.
15. He wanted to live there with his family, but he died on April 23rd, 1610.
16. He was only forty-six years old.

ALFRED HITCHCOCK

1. Alfred Joseph Hitchcock was born in London on August 13, 1899.
2. He went to school and university there and in 1920 he started to work with a British film company.
3. In 1920 he also married Alma Revelle, his wife for the next sixty years.
4. They had one daughter.
5. From 1925 to 1939 he made several films in Britain, including The 39 Steps and The Man Who Knew Too Much.
6. In 1939 he left Britain because he wanted to work in Hollywood.
7. He lived in Los Angeles for the rest of his life and made many of his 53 films there.
8. A lot of people in America and Europe saw his famous films Psycho (1960) and The Birds (1963).
9. Queen Elizabeth II made Hitchcock 'Sir Alfred' in 1980.
10. Soon after that, in May 1980, he died in Los Angeles.

CHARLIE CHAPLIN

1. Charlie Chaplin was born in London in 1889.
2. He first appeared in music halls and then acted on the London stage.
3. In 1910 he went to the USA with Fred Karno's company, but he didn't stay with Karno very long.
4. In 1913 he started to work at the Keystone Company in Hollywood.
5. There he made his first film, Making A Living, in 1914.
6. In his second film, Kid Auto Races at Venice (1914), he introduced the little tramp.
7. This character made him famous.
8. Chaplin got married several times.
9. He met his last wife, Oona O'Neill in 1942 and married her a year later.
10. Chaplin was then 54 years old and Oona 18.
11. He left the USA in 1952 for political reasons and lived with his family in Switzerland for the rest of his life.
12. He died in 1977.

Arkadaşlar, kopuk kopuk gitmemek, dile biraz daha yoğun girmek ve öğrenme hızımızı unutma hızımızdan önde tutmak adına metin okuma sıklığımızı artırmayı düşünüyoruz. Bu noktada benim teklifim en azından günde bir metin okumak. Tabii bu herkese uyar mı bilmiyorum. Bu yüzden herkesin fikrini alıp bir ortalama çıkaralım. Ancak her halükarda biraz hızlanmak, hem faydalı hem etkili olacak diye düşünüyorum.
