I complain way too much for my own good but it moderately bothers me that no one really talks about how amazing Hange is with tactics. And I’m not just saying ‘oh yeah she’s smart.’ Like, Erwin is great with it, but he’s known for how he sacrifices his soldiers.
Hange isn’t.
We’ve seen one soldier be eaten on Hange’s watch, and upon seeing it, she got pissed off and tried to avenge them straight away.
And while Erwin forces his soldiers to keep going until it’s useless, Hange’s style of leading is really different: not only does she keep track of what various groups are doing so she could cover multiple bases at once instead of simply giving one order and waiting it out, as shown in these examples:
She’s also really careful about the slightest amount of danger to keep her soldiers safe from harm. Look:
With Erwin, it’s more of a free-for-all. She has way more control of her actual troops, and no one recognizes it enough.
Probably because the anime is hell-bent on trying to say that she’s reckless as hell, when she really isn’t.
This isn’t to say Erwin is bad at tactics, or a bad leader. He’s the Commander for a reason. But I just needed to make a post about why I hate the anime’s idea of Hange, where she constantly gets herself and others into trouble with her titan obsessions, even having her do shit like capture the FTT only to waste time taunting her, when in the manga, she makes it clear she doesn’t believe in wasting time with that crap:
So, yeah.
Round of applause for Manga Hange, tactical genius who has even crawled to Erwin’s ankle after a massive shockwave that made her and her other soldiers 'in critical condition’ and basically passed out, in order to tell them what to do:
You go, baby, you go.
